Read all about the Ashton Court Festival in our special feature
Another year, another Orange Ashton Court Festival, and once again it was a hot hot weekend, with fantastic entertainment and cracking live music! So re-live the joy of the festival now, by looking at our images!
The festival, now in its 31st year, is a non-profit organisation and is still almost entirely run by volunteers. Work starts on the next festival just as soon as the last one finishes, with more than ten thousand volunteer hours put in every year to ensure a weekend of top class entertainment. The festival, held in the beautiful grounds of Ashton Court Estate, is attended by upto 100,000 people and is the highlight of the Bristol social calendar.
Every year, the festival showcases the cream of Bristol talent, with internationally acclaimed headline acts rounding off each day. We are proud to announce that this year’s headline acts will include The Super Furry Animals (Saturday) and Lemon Jelly (Sunday). Also appearing will be Zion Train, Roni Size, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel and 150 more acts over 8 stages, marquees and big tops. All this plus a fantastic kid’s area, this year featuring some wondrous attractions courtesy of @tBristol, and 150 stalls selling food and crafts from around the world.
With over a decade of material, seventeen Top 40 hits and new album ‘Love Kraft’ out soon, The Super Furry Animals are legendary for putting on a great show. Multi-instrumentalist duo Fred Deakin and Nick Franglen, AKA Lemon Jelly, released their critically acclaimed third album ’64-95’ earlier this year. Their live shows are well known as an unmissable audio-visual experience.
Though the Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed again, the organisers can today announce a much improved bus service will be offered this year. Last year the service carried over 30,000 people to the event, dropping off and picking up at the entrance to the estate. This year the service will drop off in the heart of the site at the entrance to the festival itself. That means for the first time ever there will be no long walks through the estate, so festival goers can save all their energy to enjoy the wide variety of entertainment the festival has to offer! The buses will pick up from 3 sites in central Bristol, Blackboy Hill, Whiteladies Road and outside the Colston Hall, running from 11am to midnight both days.
This year for the first time we will also be selling advance tickets, available from Bristol Ticket Shop, www.bristolticketshop.co.uk or tel. 0870 4444 400. The festival is unbelievably good value, with advance tickets at £5 per day (+ booking fee) and £6 per day on the gate (children 14 and under free). We are also selling a limited number of passes for car parking at the top of the festival site, also available from Bristol Ticket Shop. Last year these passes proved very popular with young families, enabling them easy access to the festival site. People with blue disabled badges can of course park in this area free of charge.
Daffyd Jonze, Music Co-ordinator, said ‘We are very pleased with the strength of this year’s lineup, not only with the fantastic headline acts but with the wealth of local talent that will be on show’. Community & Regional Affairs Manager for Orange UK, Carmel O’Hara said "Orange are delighted to once again have the opportunity to work closely with BCF in producing Orange Ashton Court Festival 2005. It's great that we can continue to support this annual music spectacular. Having our head office located in Bristol means that we are really happy to be able to invest in the community within which we live and work.”
The festival now has a nominated charity, The Jessie May Trust, who provide care at home for terminally ill children, please visit www.jessiemaytrust.org.uk |
