When the World Premiere of the Disney and Cameron Mackintosh musical MARY POPPINS opens at The Bristol Hippodrome in September, audiences will be whisked into an extraordinary and visually magical world - a world where anything can happen if you let it! But how will this transformation occur and what is involved?
Some of the theatre’s finest creative talents have been brought together to realise Mary Poppins on the stage and this week The Bristol Hippodrome sees the arrival of the production team, technicians, carpenters and electricians who will begin the enormous task of bringing the show to life during the summer.
30 articulated lorries will transport scenery, costumes, props, automation, lighting & sound equipment from all corners of the country to Bristol over the next few weeks. It will take a team of over 70 technicians, including carpenters, electricians, riggers, sound engineers, automation and projection specialists to install one of the most technically complex shows ever staged.
A massive 18 tonnes of steelwork are being constructed on the Hippodrome’s stage, which will house one of the shows many impressive sets. Additional electrical power is being installed into the Hippodrome to be able to run the lighting rig along with 25,000 LEDs and 12,000 metres of fibre optic stars.
