Hot on the Heels of its sell out, awarding winning Edinburgh run Zipp lands in the middle of London’s West End ready to delight the cockney folk with an evening of pure entertainment. It’s Camp, It’s Funny, It’s Toe Tapping Brilliance…It’s Zipp!

It’s a bit strange though isn’t it?! Having seen, loved and reviewed the show in Edingburgh I was invited to see it again in London, and to be honest very little has changed! There are merely a few notable difference, all of which (thank God) add to the enjoyment rather than distract. This said however seeing this a second time has made me appreciate it even more, yes this is one of those rare gems, a show you can see numerous times and never get bored.

Gyles Brandreth the ex Conservative MP promises you 100 musicals in 90 minutes or your money back, and for once this isn’t a lying politician. Zipp! Is a rollercoaster ride of pure genius. The Reduced Shakespeare Company managed great success with its version of lots of The Bard in little time, and I’m sure this is destined for even better things.

The hugely talented cast each with exceptional singing talents managed to make you laugh, clap, tap your foot and wonder what was next during the whole 90 minute romp, and not once did you start to get a bit board as you always knew that another musical would be along in a minute!

Gyles Brandreth has exceptionally written this perfectly constructed montage of musicals. He’s taken great care to make sure you learn of a few new musicals while seeing their take on your favourites, but a few of the more modern musicals such as We Will Rock You, and Our House wouldn’t go a miss! The addition of Big Sister though, a neon sign that keeps track of how many musicals are performed, adds another extraordinary dimension to the show and keeps you on your toes…well when they are not tapping along to the show!

Gyles has a wondrous rapport with the audience, and is actually a very funny bloke! He creates a great sense of atmosphere, camp enjoyment and passion towards the performance, especially when clad in suspenders during The Rocky Horror Show sequence! Notable other sections have to be the brilliantly funny and somewhat accurate Les Mis performance and the Complete Works Of Andrew Lloyd Webber, twice, once in less than 60 seconds…it does have to be seen to be believed.

Andrew C Wandsowrth, Claire-Marie Johnson (CJ) and Amanda Symonds play their role’s like old pros having a laugh, and their voices are defiantly up to the job. Stuart Barr on piano also is fully involved in the show and is a highly talented musician in his own right, and along with some brilliant chorography and direction you never loose any sense of the fun which Zipp! creates. CJ is a relative newcomer to the theatre scene, and no doubt has miles to travel with her sexy voice hitting every note in her wide vocal range.

You come out smiling, humming about 20 different tunes and knowing you’ve thoroughly enjoyed 90 minutes of entertainment like no other. Zipp along to the Duchess and catch a rare West End treat.
