Reviewer: Chris Cox

"Al' Daakan is the story of a young Asian girl and her search for the truth and the dance and movement has the emphasis of Asian and Arab cultures. The piece if visually stimulating and very accessible to both theatre and non theatre-goers alike. It has the epic feel of traveling a journey and reaching a destination, the music ad movement skillfully showing the way."

Al' Daakan in truth is something rarely viewed on stage today, an original and completely different cultural piece of performance. It's theatre, as it has a narrative, it's dance, as...well it has dancing, it's physical theatre, its comedy, its a dynamic and blissful piece of wonderment.

The relationships developed, and the characters created throughout by the three person cast, bring so much individuality to this piece, along with bucket loads of emotion, ideas and tales.

This does seem to be a "fringe" theatre production, extremely abnormal as to anything the regular theatergoer may view, this said it is an experience not to be missed. You may love it, you may loath it, you may just think it's ok, but it is something that you need to experience to appreciate theatre as a whole.

The cast were massively enthusiastic to the tiny crowd, and really deserve better than only a few people in. Their dance, physicality's and singing and joyous to listen to and watch. The multi-sensory aspects added a whole new layer to the performance, from the inclusion of the audience during certain scenes, to the free Indian tea in the interval.

The only slight problem lies in the length, some sections were too long, and too repetitive, especially some of the dance. However,  that said, you wouldn't go far wrong if you decided to see Al'Daakan.

It is accessible to everyone, and creates a magical wonderland, with the use of effective lighting and sound. You are drawn into the world of Al'Daakan, and don't want to leave it. A rare treat in the theatre world.
