For a fun-filled week the Morecambe and Wise celebration that is “The Play What I Wrote” is in the Hippodrome…and it’s got them rolling in the aisles.

Ben has written a play, an epic set in the French Revolution, called A Tight Squeeze for the Scarlet Pimple and he wants to see it mounted. Joe, on the other hand, wants them to continue with their double act, even though they haven’t worked for two  years. He believes that if they perform a tribute to Morecambe and Wise, Ben’s confidence will be restored and the double act will go on. But first, Joe needs to persuade a guest star to appear in the play what Ben wrote…

And thus we have the multi-award winning, West End hit originally directed by Kenneth Branagh but now admirably steering this ship is Michael Gyngell who manages to coax the most and the best out of the three extraordinary leads. Joseph Alessi, Ben Keaton and Toby Sedgwick.

Those three guys are truly amazing, unbelievable performers who had the audience eating out of the palms of their hands. Delivering comic performances, which are real gems. Physically hilarious they take the strong script to a completely different level; its Morecambe and Wise live on stage, but not. It’s original but familiar, it is like nothing else.

The addition of the special guest star makes for an exciting turn of events, and with three different celebrities lined up for Bristol you never know who you’re going to get.

The truly masterful script by Hamish McColl and Sean Foley (the original cast) oh and of course the Morecambe and Wise master Eddie Braben is an utter feast for the ears and your laughter muscles. As mad, as witty, as funny and as classic as anything the two legends (Morecambe and Wise of course….keep up in the back!) this is a true celebration of two comic masters, to geniuses….and The Play What I Wrote is nothing short of genius.

You are left on a cloud of happiness that will take you days to come down from. This is a hugely entertaining, old fashioned remembrance of yester-year evening out. Laugh your way to the Box Office, and to be cheesy for just a moment…it certainly will bring you sunshine and of course it’ll bring you laughter, all the while.
