A cold wet night in Bristol and looming in front of us, the hazy lights, of the Big Top. The Moscow State Circus has arrived!

However once inside the Big Top, the rain, and arctic temperatures seem to disappear.

The lights dim, the music starts and the Russian Ringmaster welcomes us to the Moscow State Circus. A lavish light display brings the Big Top to life, as the cast comes in to the ring. Accompanied by Russian Music, some skipping skills commence, which open you eyes, and the evening’s performance.

Smiles start to appear on some miserable and cold faces, as the two clowns, "Mak and Mik" begin to entertain you. Surprisingly they are funny, and have a loveable aura around them, which you can’t escape, adults and children alike. Their sketches, which come between each act, brighten up the show, and really make you laugh, from their ridiculous costumes, to avoiding the custard pie!

A sumptuous delight graces our eyes, from all the performers. The flying men, on the swing hold the pure wow factor, as they fly through the air, to be caught on the large mat, "I wanna go!" is the only thing we could think about!

The men in the audience were then treated to some mass hypnotism thanks to a hanging swing, and an attractive, scantily clad Russian Beauty! Not only was she attractive, her strength and skills surpass that of the Russian Star, Anna Kornakova.

The new style robotic spinning thing, was something, which is extrordany to behold, and the trapeze act, was startlingly brilliant. As the interval begins, you are left wanting the show to recommence.

After what seems like an age, the lights re-dim, and we are off again. The Giant safety net kind of gave away the most classic circus act around. The show explodes into life as we raise our heads to watch the supreme skills of the troupe. Flying from bar to bar, often in perfect synchronization, the performers fly above our awed faces and we realize that we truly are watching one of the greatest circus’s in the world.

More Mik and Mak follow yet again rekindling the dieing smiles of the audience. The pantomime style Balloon Act, kept the laughter and amazement up.

Then something unexpected happened, what has been shown as just the Ringmaster begins to juggle, after being edged on by Mik and Max. His juggling is beyond belief; skillful is a word, which undermines this act. I never new that you could juggle with you head and feet!

The final act approaches as we are treated to some more flying through the air, and landing, amazingly! The show ends with one final, treat, a double back summersault by a man on 12-foot stilts, this has to be seen to be beloved!

The whole cast are as enthusiastic as they could ever be, bringing magical and death defying skills to a new extreme. There is nothing better to do on any night, to recapture your youth, and see the circus. If you miss this show, then you are not only missing a tradition, but you may be classed as truly old! The appreciation of the audience goes to show how we were not the only ones who thought this. Yes the Circus is back in the Year 2000, and the Moscow State Circus, must not be missed.
