Ok! Lets get things straight, I’ve never been to a fashion show before, sure I’ve seen them on TV and watched that hilarious episode of Sex And The City where Carrie falls over in a fashion show, but have always wondered just how cool, classy and fun one would be. Now let me say this, I’m sure there could be no better a show than the Hobbs Fashion Show to go to as a first fashion show, it has everything you could ever want…and more!

Now in it’s fifth year The Hobbs Fashion Show is somewhat legendary in Bristol, born from the brain of Doug Hobbs, owner and stylist of the groovy Hobbs hair salon on Park Row. It combines the latest fashions from local shops and designers and London trend masters, the likes of Dolce & Gabanna, Versace, Paul Smith, Cyberdog, John Anthony and Phor’play all feature in a cavalcade of colour, fashion and brilliance.

A hecatomb of designers and local shops take part showcasing their wares, with each set having a distinct theme. The Empire and Commonwealth Museum is a perfect place to hold the show, which allows for a long stretching and large catwalk, some exceptional lighting and a pumping sound system to add to the overall feel of the show. Never really dragging or getting dull, the show kept at a pleasurable pace swiftly moving from one collection to the next.

The Godfather opening with Mark Bunker on violin was georgus and was followed by the hugely talented Floor Technicians Jazz Dancers, who bomped, jumped and grooved their way along the catwalk…what a way to start a show! The John Anthony collection followed with a James Bond theme, causing laughs and gasps. The sexy and kinky underwear and uniforms from Phor’play were great to look at in its perfectly choreographed Can-Can/Moulin Rouge style opener. Cyberdog’s club wear was interesting, Roads urban wear was very hot, and very hip, Uncle Sam’s vintage wear caused a stir and Cooshti’s peace/army/60s collection was mind blowing…I want some now!

The models were a nice mix of pros and those who work in the shops, which created a relaxed and informal atmosphere amongst them on the catwalk, they looked as if they were having a laugh and that transcended onto the audience. All the items on show were amazing, well designed and something I’d love to get on! The mix of collections and designers worked like a cocktail, interesting, lively and lovable!

What a night out this is! Fun, Sexy, Classy, Exciting and Enjoyable…it’s great! So get yourself a couple of cosmopolitans, watch Sex and The City and wait till you can buy tickets for next years show…you don’t want to miss it!
