There’s a game called Six Degrees Of Separation from Kevin Bacon, in which you can supposedly go from any movie star to Kevin Bacon in under six moves…let’s try it. Brad Pit, was in Snatch with Mike Read, who was in Eastenders with Shane Richie, who appeared in the musical Grease with toured and visited The Bristol Hippodrome which is currently home to Footloose, the film which Kevin Bacon danced away…see it’s easy!

Based on a true story Footloose tells the tale of Ron a Chicago teenager who moves to a small town where due to a curious law Dancing is forbidden. The story of teen angst, love, hatrid, morals and family life is all set to the rocking beat of this story as Ren McCormack attempts to get a school prom put on…but then again if you’ve seen the film you’ll know this already.

This energetic production is almost a Pop Idol rendition of the film, with the young groovy dancers coupling fantastic choreography, strong voices and hip costumes putting across their youth.

The dance sequences in Footloose are relentless and non-stop each one managing to be more visually stunning than the last, and each being performed to perfection by this incredible cast.

The strong story forms a basis for a collection of songs, which on the whole take the production up another notch. Spectacular performances from Chris Jarvis as Ren and Rachael Wooding as Ariel knock you out as they sing and dance with such effortless grace; these two are sure to be the next big thing. They are of course abelyby supported by the rest of the cast, nods going to Craig Pinder and Marilyn Cutts for their emotional portrayals as Ariel’s parents Cassidy Janson for a rough and strangely beautiful voice and Taylor James for his crazy dancing!

The lighting and set help create a lively atmosphere on the stage, which the cast keep up throughout. The show is slightly cheesy in places, with  cringing lyrics and dialogue but it doesn’t distract from the fun and frolics that this production presents to you. The standing ovation and dancing at the end from the audience does Footloose justice, this is a fun production which will give you more than your money’s worth.

Go on, kick off your Sunday shoes, cut loose and get going to The Hippodrome.
