“Cirque Du Soleil is arguably the most spectacular and popular theatrical phenomenon on the planet,” and after seeing Dralion it’s easy to see why.

Another January means another Cirque Du Soleil residency at the stunning Royal Albert Hall. The venue itself is one of the most magnificent theatres in London, offering perfect views from every seat; its sheer size and elegance is the perfect backdrop to the magical experience, which is Dralion. With a completely full house of audience members from every generation smiling, cheering and applauding with gusto Cirque Du Soleil manage to make a lasting impression on all those who get to experience their unique blend of circus, ballet, opera, theatre and story telling.

“Dralion combines avant-garde Cirque Du Soleil magic with the mysteries of traditional Chinese circus With rare balletic beauty and a remarkable, effervescent energy, the show gives visual, musical, physical and dramatic expression to the four essential elements of existence – Earth, Air, Fire and Water.”

Cirque have taken this idea to form the show, and it’s a real delight to see the blend of traditional Chinese circus juxtaposed with what Cirque is now famous for, choreographing and making a collection of acts into a stunning show.  Using the clowns and singers to move flawlessly from act to act, you never feel like you are watching a showcase of talent, the show flows and has real depth and body to it…. it makes that amazing talent on show seem like its from another world.

The beauty which Cirque have created for the world of Dralion comes not only from the truly exceptional direction and choreography but also the costumes, set and lighting, which turn the Royal Albert Hall into a completely different space for every act. The sumptuous set allowed people and objects to appear and vanish in a second, rise and fall…couple this with what is actually happening on stage and the back wall (not to mention what’s going on above your head!) then you have a real visual feast.

The whole show is utterly amazing; it’s a true mind-blowing experience. The talent of the performers is just unbelievable, as they seem to defy the laws of physics and do what just shouldn’t be able to be done. The fantastic take on the traditional Chinese Lions/Dragons is awe-inspiring as is the swinging trapeze and the award winning juggling act (in which the whole body is used to juggle!)

This is a show like no other, it is fabulous to see Cirque back on top form, and they put any other circus to shame. Roll Up Roll Up! Get yourself to the Royal Albert Hall now, Dralion is the biggest, brightest and best show in town.
