Arthur Miller's Death Of A Salesman is now 55th years-old, yet people keep flocking to the theatre to see this work of genius...but why?  Probably because it gives us the guilty pleasure of looking at a life, that we are thankful not to live.

The story is about a man's life, his job, his family (especially his relationship with his oldest son), about the double life many lead and the damage done when the two worlds collide, overall it's about people who work hard all their life but never quite make it.

Six years ago this version of the play opened in Chicago, and finally it's found a home on the London Stage....at last!

This is a classic drama depicting the dichotomy of hope and despair, fantasy versus reality, real relationships versus imagined ones.  It is complicated family life shown at its naked worst , with nothing left to the imagination.

Robert Fall's production stunned Miller himself, and it's easy to see why. It looks and behaves like no other production of the play, the stunning expansive set and wonderful drama that fills into every nook and cranny of the theatre, with emotion, wonderment and brilliance.

The cast is beyond amazing. Brian Dennehy as Willy Loman...no scrap that, Brian Dennehy is Willy Loman, he inhabits this troubled man with seemingly effortless intensity, he is the man who is unable to hold on as his job as his life crumbles away. Clare Higgins as his wife is the perfect strong woman, but does she really know her husband and son, does she realise what happened to create the rift between them? You believe every single part of every single performance, this is a master class in how to perform...a simple joy to watch.

By the end, the cast are emotionally spent and so were we. It's not an uplifting play but it is great drama and its best. incredibly acted and a phenomenal night out. With Miller's death earlier this year, there is no better way to celebrate this mans brilliance than to sit and watch most outstanding production, of arguably his most outstanding work. Miss it at your peril.
