Berkoff’s Women performed by Linda Marlowe is nothing more than a selection of excerpts from some of Steven Berkoff’s most famous and influential plays. Decadence, Agamemnon, East, Greek are among those very few.

Now me saying nothing more does seem…well harsh towards the play and to be fair it was, because this show was nothing more than a piece of awe-inspiring theatre, which kept the audience so silent that you could hear a pin drop, or in such thunderous laughter that you could not hear a thing, why was this? Well it was mainly due to the admirable first-rate performance of the lady, who made this one woman show thrive with life and energy, Linda Marlowe.

Her close relationship and knowledge of the work of Berkoff has been startlingly transformed to this 1 ¼ hour show, which is brilliantly funny, excruciatingly sad, engagingly dramatic and sexually shocking!

The agreeably directed mix between excepts flowed rhythmically and perfectly, it was perfectly paced and pitched towards the audience and showed dazzling examples of women in societies each with their own style; whether is be disgusting, sexually stunning, saddening or anything else, it was always right.

Women is however a play for women more than males, don’t get me wrong, the men enjoy it, but the women would be more in touch with it. At some point a poor bloke is singled out, as Marlowe hurls abuse about men towards him….I am glad it was not me….all the men were glad it was not them….all the women laughed at us!

Minimalist setting and staging, OK an empty space was made cozy and inviting along with swift smooth lighting changes made it clear that there was a different mood.

In Linda Marlowe’s words she wanted a truly profound performance, and in my words I really think she has got it!
