It's not often you get a play arriving at a big venue like the Hippodrome, but when they do they are amazing.

Yasmina Reza's Art has made it's name all around the World. Critically acclaimed in 1996 on its West End debut the show is now visiting Theatre's all around Britain. Under Rachel Kavanaugh's direction and with Mark Thompson's design Art is bursting with colour. Barry Foster, Nigel Havers and Rodger Lloyd Pack make up this cast of 3 for the 90-minute show. 3 Friends, 1 Painting, Hilarious consequences, this may sound farcical but it is far from it.

Art is not a farce; it is an intellectually written play, perfectly reflecting friendships. If Art were a piece of it's namesake then Picasso would surely paint it.

The Hippodrome Stage was shrunk dramatically to fit this small set,  which was a simple white, reflecting each of the characters apartments. Colour is used stunningly, the fact that there is no use of the colour, truly shows what this play is about, yes a White Painting! The whites, blacks and greys of the set are minimalist yet spot on.

The cast make this play. They put themselves fully into the character's and deliver unquestionable performances. Riotously funny, Art will have you rolling in the aisles.

The simple break-up in Friendship triggered by a painting is rendered in such a way that humour holds strong.

This is a comedy, that holds a story along with a captured audience, this is Art at its very best.
