2003 Nowt2Do.Com Award Winner

Al Murray is a bit like a good wine (for the ladies) he gets better with age. He's now on his third national tour, has had a hit TV series, has a great DVD out in the shops, has had numerous London runs and won the Perrier Award...he never stops working!

Fortunately that means you can still catch The Guv' on one of his tours, where he puts the world to rights in his own, unique, hilarious and deeply ironic way.

I say deeply ironic as that's what Al's character is, he is steeped in irony so he can get away with the foreign bashing (who else can give you a brief history of every country in the world in under 20 minutes?!) women, beer, God and the drunken man. But there is a slant to his comedy, that unique little gem which makes him one of the best performers out there. The very fact that it is steeped in irony, that the character is this 'pin-head' manages to correctly put his message across, and never seem slightly racist, sexist or god-ist!

People often go thinking it's going to be old fashioned, a knock at the French style humour, this it is not. It's intellectual, one of the most thought provoking comedians I've seen for a long time, and as soon as you start to "get the joke" about the character then you're swept in to a comedy goldmine.

Having seen him a few times now, his show just gets better and better. Essentially it is the same show each tour, yet it is this familiarity which keeps you in a safe haven, while Al battles through completely new material, leading the audience along on this riotous evening out. His masterful strokes at topical politics, the world situation, the silent majority and kid's songs will have you in rip-roaring hysterics...this man is a comic God.

Al's unique blend of facial expressions, and brilliant stories and jokes, along with a strong character make this show better than a pub ploughman's. There are not enough good words to say about this show, it is truly and utterly brilliant. No comic has made me laugh so much, I was in tears, agony and uncontrollable as I howled through Al's riotous 2 1/2 hour show. The fast paced wit and great memory all make up to this one of a kind feast of fun.

His audience interaction skills are second to none, with an un-canny power to remember names, The Publand Lord picks on certain members of the audience throughout, building them into his set with ease. He is a man who has that rare skill, he can be rude to his audience yet still admired and respect by them. He has a response for any answer he gets, and that response will always leave you laughing like a hyena.

Do not underestimate the power of the prince of pills. You will have one of the funniest evening's out for a long time.
