Eileen Page, with her wealth of acting talent, performs this stunning one-woman show.  The striking story of the feisty Eleanor of Aquitaine, who became both Queen of France and of England, has played to sell-out audiences in all parts of the country, gaining 5 stars at the Edinburgh Festival.

“Enthralling one-woman play”  The Independent

“Hardly moving from her chair, Page conveys a range of passions with her face and voice.  This is a convincing and evocative portrait of a fascinatingly powerful woman.”  The Stage.

Box Office:  0117 902 0344

Eileen Page began her career in the 1950’s at Stratford (playing alongside Paul Scofield with director Peter Brook).  She acted with most major regional companies, at the National Theatre (during Laurence Olivier’s reign), the Barbican with the RSC, and in the West End.  She has starred in many musicals also in the West End and had television roles with the likes of Michael Gambon and Judi Dench.

In the 1960’s Eileen played Eleanor of Aquitaine in Shakespeare’s “King John” and returned to the character a decade later in James Goldman’s “The Lion in Winter”.  Eileen is fascinated by this exceptional woman, one of the first true feminists and a passionate and feisty survivor.  The show was awarded 5 stars at the Edinburgh Festival.

Eleanor of Aquitaine became King Louis the VII’s Queen of France.  When there was no male heir, they were divorced and within a year she had married Henry, and became King Henry II’s Queen of England.

Known for the love in her court, Eleanor was nevertheless determined to be an equal with her husband and she was ambitious for power.  When Henry shamed her publicly with one of his affairs, she left him and plotted rebellion against him with her sons - including Richard the Lionheart and John, both to become king.  Many years later, Henry recaptured Eleanor and kept her under house-arrest for 14 years.

On Henry’s death, she was released and devoted her life to that of her sons, dying in France in 1204, aged 82, in Fontevrault Abbey, as a nun!
