LONDON’S FAVOURITE COMEDY HIT
“It’s impossible to leave the theatre unhappy”

The Times

Following two triumphant sell out runs in London’s West End, this Spring audiences around the country will have the chance to experience The Play What I Wrote.

KENNETH BRANAGH originally directed this multi-award winning celebration of Britain’s greatest comedy double act – MORECAMBE AND WISE. When it opened in London, every review was a rave, every show a sell-out and it won every major theatre award. Starring JOSEPH ALESSI, BEN KEATON and TOBY SEDGWICK, the show opens at The Bristol Hippodrome on Monday 15th March for one week.

Ben has written a play, an epic set in the French Revolution, called A Tight Squeeze for the Scarlet Pimple and he wants to see it mounted. Joe, on the other hand, wants them to continue with their double act, even though they haven’t worked for two  years. He believes that if they perform a tribute to Morecambe and Wise, Ben’s confidence will be restored and the double act will go on. But first, Joe needs to persuade a guest star to appear in the play what Ben wrote…

The Play What I Wrote is the only show with a surprise celebrity guest at every performance. So far they have included Roger Moore, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Glenn Close, Kevin Kline, Kylie Minogue, Joanna Lumley, Will Young, Dawn French, Richard Wilson, Nigel Havers, Ralph Fiennes and Sting.

BEN KEATON’s television credits include Father Austin Purcell in Father Ted, Spencer in Casualty and Ben Keaton’s Finest Half Hour. He was awarded the Perrier Award for Intimate Memoirs of an Irish Taxidermist.

JOSEPH ALESSI’s recent credits include Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

TOBY SEDGWICK founded The Moving Picture Mime Company and has performed with them across the globe.

Ben, Joseph and Toby starred together in the Marx Brothers musical Animal Crackers with Ben and Joseph receiving Olivier Award nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical respectively.

The Play What I Wrote was written and created by Hamish McColl, Sean Foley and Eddie Braben. McColl and Foley, together known as The Right Size, won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy. EDDIE BRABEN is, without a doubt, Morecambe and Wise’s greatest scriptwriter having worked with them for fourteen years during which time he won five Writer of the Year awards and a BAFTA.

The original production of The Play What I Wrote was directed by KENNETH BRANAGH. The national tour is directed by MICHAEL GYNGELL with choreography by IRVING DAVIES and MICHAEL KING, design by ALICE POWER, original songs by GARY YERSHON and musical arrangements by STEVE PARRY. The Play

What I Wrote is produced by DAVID PUGH LTD, the West End and Broadway producer of Art and The Blues Brothers.
