This Christmas, Tobacco Factory Productions brings to the stage a brand new adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic tale, The Secret Garden.

Over the last three years, the Tobacco Factory has built up an enviable reputation for its Christmas shows, including 2001’s Treasure Island and last year’s Jungle Book, and this year’s production looks set to be better and busier than ever before.

Sure to delight children and adults alike, The Secret Garden unravels the mysteries of Misselthwaite Manor, an imposing house on the Yorkshire Moors where orphaned Mary Lennox is sent to be cared for by her estranged uncle. When haughty Mary discovers a secret all of her own – a wonderful but neglected garden, she opens the door to love and friendship, and unearths the darkest of secrets…

The Secret Garden is directed by Richard da Costa, last seen at the Tobacco Factory back in 2001, playing Long John Silver in the venue’s first Christmas show, Treasure Island . Richard said,

‘It’s great to be back at the Tobacco Factory and I’m thrilled to be directing here. Rehearsals are going well, we have a fantastic cast, and we’re all enjoying the challenges involved in bringing this wonderful story to the stage, and recreating the magic of the novel.’

Dan Danson, the Artistic Director of the Tobacco Factory who’s adapted Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel for the production said,

The Secret Garden is a classic story that appeals to people of all ages, and we’re delighted to be offering Bristol audiences a chance to experience it on stage. Since we announced The Secret Garden as our Christmas show we’ve had some lovely feedback from our audiences and the local community – there’s definitely a sense of anticipation about the production because so many people have a genuine fondness for the novel. I’ve lost count of the number of people who’ve told our box office staff over the last few months that it’s been one of their favourite books since their childhood.’

Tickets for The Secret Garden are £12 adults / £8 children. Family tickets are also available at £34 for 2 adults and 2 children and £30 for 1 adult and 3 children. Contact the Tobacco Factory Box Office on 0117 902 0344 / tickets@tobaccofactory.com to book.
