THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY GALA PERFORMANCE OF THE MUSICALS’ SPECTACULAR

 THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES

FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CARON KEATING FOUNDATION

AND THE ALAN JAY LERNER FUND FOR CANCER RESEARCH

 AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL
ON BANK HOLIDAY SUNDAY MAY 1, 2005

On May 1, 2005, THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a very special gala performance in aid of the Caron Keating Foundation.

In May 1999, Gloria Hunniford hosted the first ever performance of THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES at the Royal Albert Hall.  Six years later, the 2005 concert will be held for the benefit of the Caron Keating Foundation and has been given Gloria’s special blessing.  Gloria says “We are thrilled to have such a major event supporting Caron’s Foundation.  At a time of deep loss and grief, the Caron Keating Foundation has proved to be a major positive force for our family and has provided a shaft of light enabling us to move forward.  We hope that the Foundation in Caron’s name will in turn help others and their families who are coping with all forms of cancer.  Caron would be very proud to be associated with the stunning array of talent at the Royal Albert Hall.  We thank all those involved.”

The Caron Keating Foundation aims to make a considerable difference to many individuals and families affected by cancer.  By offering financial assistance to small but significant cancer charities, professional carers and support groups, it hopes to help them with their ongoing quest for prevention, early detection and hopefully ultimate cure.  The other beneficiary will again be The Alan Jay Lerner Fund for Cancer Research at The Royal Marsden Hospital.

For one night only, international guest stars (to be announced January 2005) will be joining forces with our soloists, 900 members of the Sing Live (UK) choir and the City of London Philharmonic orchestra to perform songs guaranteed to raise the roof of the Royal Albert Hall.  Sing Live is the largest and fastest growing independent choir in the UK.  It has been seen all over the country and recently on THE X FACTOR where it was much praised by the judges.  With singers ranging in age from 16 to 80 and whose members include teachers, engineers, ambulance drivers, estate agents and a mortician, this extraordinary group is the foundation of THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES.

Some of the previous THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES soloists who have agreed to return and appear at this Gala evening include Teri Bibb (Broadway's Christine in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA); Kenneth Nichols (Broadway's Joe in SHOWBOAT); Brad Little (the Phantom in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Broadway and China)), Kelli James (the narrator to Donny Osmond's JOSEPH), David Michael Johnson (WE WILL ROCK YOU in Germany), Yngve Gasoy-Romdal (Mozart in MOZART and the title roles in JEKYLL AND HYDE in Germany) and the prize-winning young Viennese soprano, Patricia Nessy.

Don’t Cry For Me Argentina from EVITA, The Tonight Quintet from WEST SIDE STORY, You’ll Never Walk Alone from CAROUSEL, Make Our Garden Grow from CANDIDE; Superstar from JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, Anthem from CHESS, Memory from CATS and The Circle Of Life and Can You Feel The Love Tonight? from THE LION KING, are just some of the songs that will be given THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES treatment.

Special guests stars who have performed in THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES since 1999 include Graham Bickley, Glenn Close, Cy Coleman, Michael Crawford, David Essex, Maria Friedman, Roy Hudd, Alex Jennings, Howard Keel, Lauren Kennedy, Judy Kuhn, Alan Menken, Roger Moore, Elaine Paige, Jerome Pradon, Philip Quast, Tim Rice, Claire Sweeney, Rebecca Thornhill, Sally Ann Triplett and Colm Wilkinson.  Please note – the international guest stars that will be performing in 2005 will be announced in January 2005.

In 2005 the West End's leading maestro, David Firman (musical director of the original productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita), will once again conduct the massed musical forces and Hugh Wooldridge (The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, the Ira Gershwin Centenary concert - Who Could Ask For Anything More?, The Noël Coward Centenary Celebration, and Sondheim Tonight) will direct.  Wooldridge says "This evening is a must for all who love musicals.  Come along and hear the best performers in the world performing some of the greatest songs.  And this year marvel also at the sound of the refurbished organ of the Royal Albert Hall.  Come and join in the fun; come and raise the roof of The Royal Albert Hall; come and raise funds for the Caron Keating Foundation."
