“MAMMA MIA!” TO HAVE A NATIONAL PRESS NIGHT
AT 7.00PM ON THURSDAY 3 JUNE

AT THE PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE

“MAMMA MIA!” will have its first performance at the Prince of Wales Theatre, following its transfer from the Prince Edward Theatre, on Thursday 27 May. There will be a National Press Night for the production in its new home at 7.00pm on Thursday 3 June. The move follows a £7 million restoration of the Prince of Wales Theatre.

“MAMMA MIA!”, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, will have celebrated its 5th London birthday on Tuesday 6 April. This birthday will also have marked the 30th Anniversary of ABBA’s Eurovision win with “Waterloo”.

The sixth London cast, currently playing, is headed by Vivien Parry (‘Donna Sheridan’), Alexandra Jay (‘Sophie Sheridan’), Dean Stobbart (‘Sky’), Lara Mulcahy (‘Rosie’), Kim Ismay (‘Tanya’), Simon Slater (‘Sam Carmichael’), Robert Hands (‘Harry Bright’) and Dale Rapley (‘Bill Austin’).

With more productions now playing simultaneously around the world than any other musical, “MAMMA MIA!” is the world’s number 1 show. There are currently 11 global productions: 5 in North America (Broadway, Las Vegas, Toronto and 2 US tours), an Australasian tour and 4 foreign language productions (Japan, Germany, The Netherlands and Korea). The original London production opened in 1999 and has played over 2000 performances and grossed over £105 million at the UK Box Office.  Over 3.4 million tickets have been sold.

Inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs, writer Catherine Johnson’s enchanting tale of family and friendship unfolds on a fantasy Greek island.  On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago…

With music & lyrics by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, “MAMMA MIA!” is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. The production is designed by Mark Thompson with lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce & Bobby Aitken & musical supervision, additional material & arrangements by Martin Koch.

“MAMMA MIA!” is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East & Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal.

“MAMMA MIA!” is currently booking to 5 March 2005, with ticket prices ranging from £25-£49. Telephone bookings (both venues): 0870 850 0393 or 0870 264 3333. The Box Office at the Prince of Wales Theatre will open for public sales on Monday 19 April. Until this time, all personal bookings should be made at the Prince Edward Theatre. Performance times for both venues are Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm, Fridays at 5.00pm and 8.30pm and Saturdays at 3.00pm and 7.30pm.
