While she was in Edinburgh 3 months into the tour of My Fair Lady, Nowt2Do.Com caught up with the star of the show Amy Nuttall.

Amy plays Eliza Doolittle in the show, a role previously tackled by Martine McCutcheon and Mary Poppins herself Laura Michelle Kelly, yet is not adverse to musical theatre. She was cast in the UK tour of Phantom Of The Opera at just 16, she's gone onto win Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes as Sarah Brightman, she recently left the hit soap Emmerdale after much acclaim and has released a classical album which hit number 5 in the charts. It's non stop for this talented 23 year old.

Amy's whirlwind conversation with nowt2do.com left me inspired about the show as her infectious enthusiasm for My Fair Lady did just that, infect me with enthusiasm!

We asked her how she's enjoying the tour, "I'm loving it, it's going so so well, the reviews are great and it just seems to be flying by. We've been to Manchester and Birmingham, we're now in Edinburgh before coming to Bristol. It's hard to believe that we are already a third of the way into the show, but it's just going so well, it's such fun and it's a joy to perform every night."

"I still get nervous every night before I go on, but I'm glad I do, it allows me to give my best performance. It's a pretty tiring tour but it's just so rewarding. You can't beat the applause of an audience, being on stage and entertaining them, it's just fantastic."

I asked in the pressure of the two leading ladies before her, and the fact that people will only know her as a soap star ever gets to her, "kind of, but I just put it out of my mind, I am really pleased that Emmerdale has given me such a high profile, but it also means I've got a lot of prove, but I'm thrilled to bits to be able to prove that, though my album and delivering a wonderful performance as Eliza." I asked her despite the fantastic reviews, is she nervous about going back into musical theatre after a spell in tv.

"Yes it was a bit scary but it's really good to get back onto the stage, to be able to give a strong performance and to get such wonderful reviews. It's strange, I never felt like I had anything to prove when I was cast, because I'd been given the job and proved that I would be able to tackle this character, but when I was on Stars In Your Eyes, I felt like I had loads to prove. People knew I could sing but hadn't seen me perform, so I had so much to show, but fortunately I did prove myself, and it kind of was the thing that started all this off."

"I'm really looking forward to getting to Bristol and exploring the city a bit. It was the first place I was on tour with Phantom at 16, so it'll bring back lots of memories, and to be here, playing Eliza is just a dream come true. It's the role I've always wanted to play, I feel so lucky to be playing her, it was one of those shows I always watched as a kid and to now be Eliza, singing those songs, it's just unbelievable." Is there any other part you'd love to play? "Maria in The Sound Of Music would be amazing, but I'm not counting my chickens!"

Amy comes to Bristol in My Fair Lady from Jan 24th.
