“This is Rock and Roll at it’s Best…”

“Brilliant singers and multi-instrumentalists who strike awe into the hearts of their audience..”

Jailhouse Rock - The Musical

Jailhouse Rock The Musical, Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson’s stage musical adaptation of Presley’s classic 1957 feature film, which premiered in Plymouth last week to rapturous reviews, opens 19th April in London after a run at Manchester’s Palace Theatre (10th - 20th March).

A unique celebration of 50 years of rock n’ roll from one of the UK’s most successful writing and directing teams, Jailhouse Rock - The Musical features over 23 classic rock n’ roll numbers and redefines musicals as we know them. Mixing different styles and genres of music to create a show critics are already heralding as ‘a theatrical phenomenon’,  “this is Rock and Roll at its best” according to BBC Radio. The “ecstatic audience response” recorded by the Exeter Express and Echo looks set to be repeated when the show reaches London on March 26.

Following three years of development, and at a cost of over £ 3.4 million, this much-anticipated musical previews at the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End from 26th March. Following the original story of the Presley film, Jailhouse Rock – The Musical  tells the story of Vince Everett, a young man too quick with his fists who discovers his own unique musical talent whilst doing time in jail, emerging to become the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll star.

The musical sees the arrival of a formidable new talent in the form of Mario Kombou, who as leading man Vince Everett reprises the role that brought his hero Elvis worldwide adulation. Mario is joined by Lisa Peace as Peggy van Aulden, the woman who launches Vince’s career and with whom he eventually falls in love, Roger Alborough as country and western singer and hardened con Hawk Houghton and Gilz Terera as Vince’s loyal friend behind bars Quickly Robinson.

Mario’s innate gift as a performer is matched by an ensemble cast that “comprises brilliant singers and multi-instrumentalists who strike awe into the hearts of their audience…with boundless energy… there's not a single weak link…as they play bass, guitar, banjo, percussion, jive piano, harmonica and sing like angels.” Torquay Herald Express

Jailhouse Rock - The Musical has been adapted for the stage by the writer/director/ producer team of Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson whose previous show  ‘Buddy’, introduced the new concept of the rock ‘n’ roll musical to the West End and ran for 13 years in London and across the globe. The creative team includes Adrian Rees (Designer), David Mackay (Musical Supervisor) and Drew Anthony (Choreographer).

Jailhouse Rock - The Musical is based on the motion picture ‘Jailhouse Rock’, originally produced by Pandro S. Berman. Produced by Alan Janes and co-produced by Jonathan Alver and Stephen Dee, Jailhouse Rock – The Musical is a Theatre Partners, Jailhouse Company and Volcanic Island production.
