CELEBRATING STYLE – FASHION SHOW LEADS THE WAY

Tickets are now on sale for the annually much-anticipated Hobbs ‘Born and Raised in Bristol’ show – the biggest, most dynamic fashion and style event of its type in the UK.

Set to get pulses racing and local pride swelling, the 2005 show (11th and 12th March at the Empire and Commonwealth Museum) will see not only fantastic creations from local, national and international designers plus dynamic dance routines from top performers, but also a creative theme specially developed to celebrate the multi-cultural style and diversity of Bristol itself.

Offering a unique chance to see some of the region’s hottest design talent alongside collections from Bristol’s leading independent retailers, the show is set to sizzle in 2005.  Using hand-picked local ‘talent’ throughout the show – from models to dancers, set design to support video and music, ‘Born and Raised in Bristol 2005’ yet again sees show organiser Doug Hobbs of Hobbs salon in Park Row, proving that Bristol is anything but a sleepy backwater and is home to a real hotbed of talent.

“Bristol is hugely culturally diverse, with a range of cultures and styles coming together to create a unique sense of laid back style – not to mention some really exciting young talent in fashion and design”, explains Doug.  “Having run the show for six years now I really wanted the 2005 event to both showcase and celebrate all that is special about Bristol and so we’ve been busy creating a show that’s going to be great fun, really theatrical and very, very special.”

Focusing on the importance of individual style rather than a ‘one look suits all’ approach, Doug has already been searching for local talent to participate in the Show, with the focus on individual style rather than model-perfect looks.

Alongside the show a limited ticket-only after show party is being organised with tickets offered on a first-come-first-served basis.  A chance to mix with the models, musicians, performers, retailers and designers, it’s a party that should be top of the ‘must attend’ list for 2005.

For tickets to the show call Hobbs ticket line on 07810184730, or call into the salon in Park Row, Bristol.  Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from the Bristol Ticket Shop in The Arcade, Bristol – 0117 929 9008 or Annabel Harrison, 14 Shire’s Yard, Milsom Street, Bath BA1 1BZ -  01225 447578.

HOBBS SHOW PROVIDES CHANCE OF A LIFETIME TO
YOUNG DESIGN TALENT

Would-be fashion designers are being given the chance of a lifetime – to win a week’s placement at Betty Jackson working with her team of top designers, in the Hobbs 2005 design competition.

Following the pilot competition in 2004 which saw some fantastic young talent from the region achieve not only catwalk acclaim, but post-show business success, Doug Hobbs – the mastermind behind the Hobbs fashion and style show, is again giving new talent the opportunity to shine in this year’s show.

Potential designers – whether amateur home-spun seamstresses, students with a passion for fashion or yet-to-be-discovered struggling designers – are all invited to enter.  The best entrants will be given the opportunity to participate in this year’s Hobbs Show – the largest fashion event of its type in the UK which is this year being held at the Empire and Commonwealth Museum 11th and 12th March and expected to attract over 2,000 people.

“Having tested the water last year and found some really brilliant young designers in the region I was determined that this year we should continue to highlight the talent that’s all around us.  The fact that Betty Jackson has agreed to take on our final winner for a week’s placement is a great opportunity for someone and I dearly hope that they go on to achieving great things in the world of fashion.”

Judging will take place on 8th and 9th February, with judges drawn from the region’s top fashion design colleges – Filton, Weston-super-Mare and Bower Ashton.  Entrants will be requested to bring sample designs and a selection of made-up items for judging.

To register your interest in entering the competition or for further details contact Hobbs on 0117 929 1635.
