“CATS”, the world’s most successful and longest running musical has, after 21 record-breaking years, left its West End home and the current touring production is coming to The Bristol Hippodrome where it will play for three weeks only.

“CATS”, by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ by T.S.Eliot, is directed by Trevor Nunn, associate director and choreographer is Gillian Lynne, and design is by John Napier. 

The show opened at the New London Theatre on 11 May 1981 where it played almost 9000 performances until its closure on 11 May 2002, the show’s 21^st birthday. “CATS” won the 1981 Olivier Award for Best Musical and, after opening on Broadway, won 7 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Director.

On 29^th January 1996 “CATS” in London became the longest running musical in West End and Broadway history when it broke the record of 6,137 performances previously held by the Broadway production of ‘A Chorus Line’.

In London the show grossed over £136 million and was seen by over eight million people. Worldwide “CATS” has so far grossed in excess of $2 billion and been seen by over 50 million people. “CATS” has been performed in 11 different languages in over 300 cities in 26 countries. “Memory” has had nearly 53,000 plays on radio and television in the UK alone and airplays in the USA passed 2 million in 1998.
