Brands Hatch is known as the ‘Heart of British motor sport’ and this natural bowl was first used from 1926 as a venue for cycling and pace making but it soon starting taking steps towards what we see today and had its first motorbike race meeting on March 28th 1932. Today its natural undulating hills make this race circuit not only good for drivers but exceptionally good for spectators who can view many parts of the track at the same time.

This weekend saw the end of another F3 season which was won by Nelson Angelo Piquet the son of triple Formula 1 World Champion Nelson Piquet. Due to the wet conditions the racing was very exciting, all though we all know that race drivers careering off the track is not really a good thing as this is most likely to cause injury and it does also hurt to see a Ferrari with its front spoiler ripped to shreds, when watching such a sport something out of the ordinary is always a bonus and I think that a good crash is a crowd pleaser, maybe not instantly but you can be sure that when look back on the day and knowing then that no one was hurt you feel that something exciting happened!

Amongst other races including TVR Tuscans and the VW cup the other main event of the weekend was the GT championships, as you can see from the photos this included Porsche, Ferrari, Morgan and more TVR’S is a real treat for the car enthusiast. Much like the many events like this the pits are open to all, this really give you a sense of being part of the day and not an expensive ticket paying spectator that comes with the high profile Formula 1.

Brands Hatch is situated just outside of Dartford in Kent, access via the M25 is easy and  it  is certainly a spectator friendly track, the track has been adapted from the days Formula 1 and  most races take part on the shortened Indy track, for further information on this venue please visit www.motorsportvision.co.uk/brands-hatch/index.asp

Upcoming Events

Oct 16/17- Formula Ford Festival which is one of the classic end-of-season junior single-seater meetings. It doesn't attract the 200+ cars it used to in its '80s heyday but FFord Festival champion is still one of the most prestigious titles there is in UK motor racing - previous winners include Jan Magnusson, Chico Serra, Eddie Irvine, Johnny Herbert, Mark Webber, Anthony Davidson, all of whom went on to race in Formula 1.

Oct 23/24 There's the final meeting of the year for the BMCRC Nationwide and MRO Powerbike Tour it will also act as a kind of tribute meeting for Britain's new World Superbike Champion James Toseland. James will be here to meet the fans etc and he may even be doing demo laps on his WSB-winning Ducati too. It should be a unique chance for bike racing fans to get up close and personal with the only sportsman in the UK who's won a World anything this year.

Oct 30/31 Rallycross Superprix, which features the final rounds of the British Rallycross and BRDA Rallycross championships. Again, doesn't pull in the 20k crowds it did in the '80s (when it was shown on BBC Grandstand with Murray Walker commentating) but it's still a very cool event, and something very different - rallycross gives the viewer the best of both worlds from rallying and circuit racing. You get the spectacular drifting style of rally cars but racing head to head against each other. One of the most spectacular forms of motorsport there is.
