What are RSS Feeds?

RSS Feeds are a way for websites to provide content to the
public in a format, other than html (web pages). RSS 2
stands for "Really Simple Sindication" which basically means that
the information contained within an RSS Feed is really easy to
parse and so display to the end user. So how do you use them? There are a number of ways you can use RSS Feeds. One of the most useful, in this author's humble opinion, is to use Firefox as your web browser. Firefox allows you to add 'live bookmarks' which are created from RSS Feeds and are yet another reason why Firefox is one of the most powerful browsers around. There are other ways to view RSS Feeds, mainly by using RSS Feed Reader programs or by viewing the RSS file directly. The latter option is only really viable if the website adds style information, as Nowt2Do.com has, to the Feed. Try it out by clicking on a RSS link on one of our pages! |

Firstly, you need a copy of Mozilla's Firefox. This can be downloaded from
Mozilla's Website.
Once you have downloaded and installed Firefox, click the link in your
start menu (or Applications folder on Macs) to open it. Navigate to nowt2do.com by entering our address in the address bar at the top of the browser. When you go on a page that contains a RSS Feed you'll see a 
RSS Feed icon in the address bar like so: Click on this icon and alter the name and folder of the feed, if required, in the dialog that pops up:  Now you'll notice the RSS Icon will appear in the bookmark folder you chose (we recommend the bookmarks toolbar). If you click on the link then the titles of all the items in the RSS Feed will be displayed after a short loading period:  |

Firstly, you need a copy of RSSOwl. This can be downloaded from
RSSOwl's Website.
If you're on a Windows machine you'll need to download the windows
binary edition of RSSOwl. Once you have downloaded and installed RSSOwl,
click the link in your start menu to open it. In your web browser navigate to nowt2do.com by entering our address in the address bar at the top of the browser. When you go on a page that contains a RSS Feed you'll see a
RSS Feed icon. Right click on the icon and select the "copy link location"
option. Then in RSSOwl, create a new favourite by right-clicking in the favourites panel
and selecting the appropriate option: In the dialog that pops up, paste the address you copied from your browser by pressing CTRL+V. Then enter or ask RSSOwl to automatically determine the title before pressing OK. Then you'll be able to view the feed by clicking on the relevant entry in the favourites panel:  Now you'll notice the RSS Icon will appear in the bookmark folder you chose (we recommend the bookmarks toolbar). If you click on the link then the titles of all the items in the RSS Feed will be displayed after a short loading period:  |
