The biggest musical event of 2004 and it happens at The Bristol Hippodrome, on Tuesday September 28th 2004 Mary Poppins finally opened.

The red carpet stretched from the foyer of the Hippodrome as hundreds of fans gathered anxiously outside to see who would turn up, what the show would be like, and who they could get to sign their programmes. There was the odd star from Casualty, The Lord Mayer, Cameron Mackintosh and well...that was about it...but did this matter? Certainly not as the star of the show was of course, the show itself.

The after show party...now that's a completely different story...boy the people at Disney and Cameron Mackintosh certainly know how to throw a party. Taking over the newly opened Zerodegrees Restaurant the party did this show proud. The Mary Poppins Logo was plastered across the walls outside by laser lights, and all the houses in the local area had their chimneys light in up various shades of blue, pink and purple, a tiny touch which made the evening utterly magical.

Once inside not only were all the press, cast, crew, family members and local minor celebrities there but also, there was a hell of a lot of food. Champagne on tap was coupled with numerous buffets, each outdoing the last, delightful flavored beers, delicious canapés and best of all, a fantastic sweet shop that had everything from doughnuts to jelly babies, and even those letters needed for Supercali....you get the point!

The live band were swinging, the evening was flowing by and everyone was enjoying themselves...then at 2am before we all left, you were given the chance to fly your own kite. A magical end to the most magical of evenings.
