There is a very evil part of me that wants to complain about the Hotel Du Vin, that wants to say it’s terrible, that it doesn’t live up to it’s expectations…..why do I want to do this? Basically I want to be invited back to re-review it, because the Hotel Du Vin quite frankly lives up to all possibly expectations and some.

Hidden in a secluded courtyard just off the city centre, its location is ideal for the visitor and local alike. The Bristol Hotel Du Vin is part of a small, yet rising chain which have turned beautiful buildings into hotels across the country. The one in Bristol is created from six Grade II warehouses dating back to the 180’s, known as The Sugar House. The rooms (each named after a different wine house) employ a contemporary ‘loft-living’ fashion, making you feel right at home, and wowing you with the relentless style, which just oozes style, and chic sophistication.

You enter the hotel through a delightful courtyard, which has a relaxing and Spanish atmosphere and sets you up for the delights, which are inside. Upon being greeted by ultra-friendly and helpful staff you’re car is Valet parked and you’re checked in. The staff then gives you a small tour of the hotel as they take you to your room. The cigar and wine rooms, the marvellous sugar room bar and restaurant, the comfy library and the old-fashioned Billiards room.

Each room is lavishly furnished with the most stylish items, and have quite possibly the best shower system of any hotel ever. The monsoon-like-showers are massive and deliver 40 litres of water per minute, it’s the most refreshing, magnificent and superb shower experience!

I was fortunate enough to be in one of the loft suites, and my jaw dropped as I entered the room, its simple elegance amazed me. The high ceiling gave me two levels, on the lower was the colossal bed, with cosy pillows scattered across it, a tv and dvd player, stereo system, mini bar, desk, chairs, bathrobes, iron, trouser press, and of course the infamous hotel tea and coffee making facilities…but no dodgy kettle here. A selection of teas and coffees were accompanied by a designer kettle and cafeteria system. The upper level of my room acted as a balcony overlooking the giant bed below and was home to a large roll top freestanding bath, and massive shower area. It was luxurious to say the least.

The room did what every hotel room should, gave me a near-perfect nights sleep. I woke up, relaxed and refreshed, comfy and content. I looked up at the balcony bathroom, scanned the room and thought…this is the room I’d choose in my fantasy home…it was that perfect. The sun beamed in through the windows onto the bath tub as I considered the fact there is no better way to start a day.

Whether you’re visiting Bristol to attend a show or event, or you’re a local who wants to do something special to celebrate an anniversary or just to have a night away from home, then you won’t find a better hotel in Bristol. For what you get it’s surprisingly well priced, and lives up to all expectations.

I’ve been fortunate enough to stay in some of the world’s best hotels and always thought them to be in America, but little did I know that the gem in the hotel world’s crown is sitting in Bristol city centre.

This is a truly perfect hotel in every respect.
