The Sitcom Trials is one very clever idea. We all watch sitcoms, we all know what they are about, we all want to see new ones on our screens, so why not let us the public have a hand in making, watching and choosing them. The Sitcom Trials gives you just that.

You see three different first half’s of Sitcoms then decide upon your favourite, and the overall favourite’s second half will be shown for your viewing pleasure. The three we saw were a brilliantly characterised one-man performance of The Weird World of Jimmy James, by James Holmes. An ambitious idea which although wasn’t brilliantly funny defiantly showed early signs of being something brilliant.

The Style Council became the winners, and were absolutely classic! Justin Moorhouse and Mandy Muden performed this ironic take on the Liquid News style programme with some brilliant lines, not turned into a big deal but left in the reporting format for you to really laugh out loud at. This would make a brilliant 10 minute Stella Street style programme for BBC 2 and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of interest came their way shortly. This is TvGoHome live, and even better!

Finally we saw a Radio Sitcom involving a lesbian triangle and a double-glazing salesman entitled “Kiss me son of God.” It never reached its full potential but with a bit of editing, it could end up being very funny.

Kev F’s who’s got his own show Rude Health on at the fringe acted as compare for the performance and used his comic abilities to great measure, like all the performers did with what was a very difficult audience. The Sitcom Trials deserves full houses and a better timeslot, as it is such a great idea.

The Pitch Fest is also a little addition where the audience invent their own sitcoms; mine came a close 2nd with my idea “Osama and The Duke.” Now the chance for the audience to really get involved happened throughout, you got to shout out your favourite sitcoms, and found yourself having a brilliant time.

No exceptionally funny, but defiantly one great way to spend an afternoon seeing what could easily be TV Hits of the future. You’ll laugh out loud and have a dazzling time.
