The three
highly talented men behind Growing Nowhere are set for stardom if this
debut performance is anything to go by.
An
extremely well written look at school days and the weird kid you always
see, but this time it’s centred round him.
There are
many options open to the trio for storylines, jokes and characters yet
they have avoided the obvious and created a giggle inducing, childhood
remembering performance like no other.
This
certainly is a rare find, and an extraordinary treat. Focusing on Timmy
and his imaginary friend Simon we are taken through a rip roaring comic
feast of quick throwaway lines and superb scripting. It’s the sort of
masterpiece style you would expect from Peter Kay’s Phoenix
Nights…possibly even better.
The
performance was spot on, the Plastic Cowboys switched from character to
character with such ease and realism, you forgot that it was the same
three performers. Their individual styles changed from person to person,
and they had highly tuned the characteristics to create a totally
believable atmosphere. From the psychotic nurse to the downtrodden trouble
ridden school boys, the performance is expertly crafted and never fails to
hit the mark.
There are
laughs a plenty, mixed with some moments of sadness and joy. These are
guys to look out for….catch them now, before they become bigger than The
League Of Gentlemen.
