Wow,
what did I just witness? I found myself asking…well….myself this on
the way out of Andrew Clovers Birthday, dodging the water pistols, party
hats, and custard pies.
Zany,
Mad-capped, Anarchic, Scary, Hilarious, Horrible, Brilliant, just a few
words to try and describe this show. Well when you see a man dressed as a
six year old, welcomes you to his birthday party and hands out sweets to
the audience before they enter the theatre, you know your in for something
different.
And
different it is, and a birthday party it is. Andrew only ever had one
birthday party, and he had to share that with his younger brother. This
has obviously affected him so therefore it’s time to party again. Yes
you play pass the parcel, musical statues, he gives out presents and moves
you back to your childhood again.
However
much I enjoyed this show and found it just painfully funny, it is not to
everyone’s taste. You either like it or you don’t…a bit like a curry
it can be far too hot for you if you’re not careful.
Andrew is
disgusting at times, often far to anarchic and doesn’t take control
enough at times. A certain mad gentleman who went on stage and started to
whack Andrew with a inflatable hammer could have turned nasty and took a
bit too long for him to regain control, that said I was nearly wetting
myself like a six year old with laughter. Another slight problem is it is
often very rude, and very adult. Andrew doesn’t quite manage to mix this
adult theme with the idea of you being kids again, and needs to choose one
or the other rather than swap in and out of each style.
