A perfect summer evening, the sky is blue, the air is warm, the setting is right and the music is phenomenal. Thanks to the lovely people at Grolsch Massive Attack came home to Bristol, to play to a exuberant crowd as part of the Grolsch Summer Set.

The fantastic acoustics of the Lloyds Amphitheatre make for a great temporary concert venue, and the thousands who made their way to see Massive Attack lapped it up.

They were admirably supported by the chilled out sounds of the Kevin Mark Trail who said, “It’s great coming to play at such a unique venue. The crowd really responded to my performance, I gave it my best. I’m really looking forward to supporting Beverley Knight at the Grolsch Summer Set show in London.”

But it was 3D and crew who the crowd were most up for seeing, and as soon as they hit the stage the gathering came to life for an hour and a half of stupendous live performance.

Massive Attack played a textbook set of old and new, with Big Wheel and Unfinished Sympathy knocking the crowd dead. Tracks from Blue Lines and their latest album 100th Window were presented to the crowd, who just couldn't get enough of Mushroom Vowles, Daddy G Marshall and their extraordinary band.

Coupling their act was an awe-inspiring light show, mesmorising, hypnotic and engaging...it helped take this performance into another class. This trademark light show has become a staple of the band, not only acting as an artistic tool but also reflects the ethos of the band and their political view point.

Massive Attack wowed everyone with a blistering and eclectic set which left fans in no doubt as to why they have been acclaimed as one of the most important bands of the last decade. Bristol were clearly proud to have their favourite songs play in their back yard once more.

It was clear from their encore that Massive Attack had enjoyed this gig as much as the crowd, who left with smiles plastered across their faces.

Stuart Cain, Director of Media Services commented: This has been a fantastic start to the Grolsch Summer Set, the atmosphere amongst the audience was incredible. The combination of the unique urban location of the Amphitheatre and the performance from Massive Attack ensured a quality Summer moment for the 3,000 strong audience.

A truly memorable evening, as the sold out crowd stood in the open air, you just can't help think...does it get any better than this? And you know what...it just might as Groove Armada and Basement Jaxx play the next two days.
