As any good reporter will tell you, it is vital to properly research whatever it is you are about to review, before going to see it, sadly however, this was a maxim I neglected to heed, before heading out on Sunday morning to an exclusive preview of the film “Knight’s tale”. I knew nothing of it, except from a few rumours regarding Robbie Williams and the soundtrack.

Perhaps however, this open-minded stance is the best manner in which to approach such a film, as the opening scene of a large group of peasants and Knights dancing and clapping to a rendition of “we will rock you” will soon create a very strong impression of its own.

The film can best be described as an unusual cross between Gladiator and the Princess Bride, pitting “Will”, a young Thatcher’s son who wishes to become a knight, despite his humble birth, against an arrogant and cold adversary, as they strive for glory, fame, and inevitably the same woman.

The plot throws up little in the way of unexpected twists, but delivers good, clean action, a surprise appearance from Geoffrey Chaucer, and most importantly of all, good acting performances from the whole cast- not likely to break and box-office records, but a good, clean film that is certainly worth a viewing.
