The 2004 Ikea Bristol International Balloon Fiesta launched in style this morning as over 40 balloons took to the skies from Eastville Park. As just a small taste of what's to come a select number of special shaped Balloons and classics gently glided over Bristol, waking up those below to the sounds of burners burner and balloons...well...ballooning!

Nowt2Do.Com were there to launch our Fiesta coverage, and jumped in the Kwik Save balloon for a drift over Bristol....after enjoying our Ikea coffee of course! At the best of times the Nowt2Do team don't do mornings...so the 5.30am call for the flight was a bit painful to say the least, yet it was worth every single sleepless second to float across the beautiful city of Bristol, in this unique and almost home-grown mode of transport.

Hitching a ride with our pilot Jane, we joined over 40 other balloons in a mini-mass ascent...giving Bristolian's just a small taste of the next few days. The Kwik Save balloon held four of us, and brought fantastic views of the city to us for over an hour...a truly delightful way to wake up. The balloon is there to make money for charity; that's all it does! They auction and raffle of flights throughout the year for charities, having made over £350,000 last year alone, a really great cause, and fantastic way of raising money.

There is nothing quite like a balloon flight, it's soft, it's gentle, it's slow, it's magical. We all know Bristol is the best city in the world, and it looks even more beautiful from the sky. You just can't help but smile as you catch a flight in one of these wondrous inventions. Then again you can't help but smile as you wake up to see one of these things flying over your house, be it a monster, massive fire extinguisher, Van Gough, A Churchill Dog or the Ikea love balloon. Hundreds of people came out in their pajamas to photo and watch these balloons fly over their houses. That is the magic of the Balloon Fiesta, that is why Bristol should be proud to host such an event, there is nothing like it...and in my eyes nothing will ever top it.

If you've never been before, you better start making plans. The Balloon Fiesta is the best weekend in Bristol, if you've been before...you know that already! See you at the Fiesta to watch over 100 balloons take off at the same time. So come on Bristol, go Balloony!
