were lucky enough to be in one of the 115 balloons that took off on Friday
Morning from Ashton Court for the first mass ascent in the 2005 Bristol
International Balloon Fiesta.
We hitched a lift in one of the star
balloons from last year, the Ikea heart in a box. The conditions were
perfect as we gracefully soared over the city, watching balloons launch
below us and waking people up with the gentle sound of filling up the
balloon with hot air.
Thousands filled Ashton Court to wave
hello and good-bye as we soared over them. Like Mary Poppins and her
umbrella we flew through the skies, getting wonderful views of The
Suspension Bridge, other balloons taking off, Bristol City Centre and
beyond.

After experiencing it first hand, there
is no doubt in my mind that soaring over Bristol in a Balloon, coming out
of the world famous Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is in the top 10
of things to do before you die. That said, even if you're not flying this
year, get along to Ashton Court for the best event Bristol can offer.
