BALLOON
FIESTA GIVES A BOOST TO BABE’S BIG APPEAL
Babe’s
Big Appeal - Children’s Hospice South West’s campaign to build a
second hospice for the region - has been nominated the official charity
for the IKEA International Balloon Fiesta 2004.
The
appeal, which is named after the well-loved character ‘Babe’ from Dick
King Smith’s acclaimed book, The Sheep Pig, aims to raise £15 million
to build, equip, and endow a new children’s hospice with initial running
costs. Once up and running,
the new hospice will help an additional 200 children in the South West and
their families every year.
At
the Balloon Fiesta, the charity will benefit from collections within the
grounds, as well as publicity and a number of fundraising activities
throughout the weekend. Visitors
will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with ‘Babe-like’
piglets, and can ride on the World’s Biggest Bike, which seats 26 people
and will be doing regular circuits of the ground with all proceeds going
to the Appeal.
Commenting
on the nomination, Sarah Cummins, Events Fundraiser for Children’s
Hospice South West, said:
“We
are delighted to be chosen as the official charity for this year’s
Fiesta, which is looking to be bigger and better than ever, and is sure to
give a huge boost to funds raised so far.
In
fact, the partnership works very well, as IKEA, one of our key corporate
supporters, is also the main sponsor of the event.
Children’s
Hospice South West is looking for around 200 volunteers to help with
collections over the weekend. If
you can help, please call the Babe’s Big Appeal hotline number on 0845
600 60060.
