Nowt2Do.Com are pleased to announce their coverage of the

DISCOVERY CHANNEL INTERNATIONAL BALLOON FIESTA
Ashton Court, Bristol

Thursday 11th – Sunday 14th August 2005

Nowt2Do.Com loved this years Fiesta, it was just perfect...even if the weather wasn't at times? Check out our wonderful photo galleries for full event pics!

Remember the all important launches:

  • Thursday 11th August - 6.00 pm 'Special Shapes' launch and tether
  • Friday 12th August - 6.00 am and 6.00 pm
  • Saturday 13th August - 6.00 am and 6.00 pm
  • Sunday 14th August - 6.00 am and 6.00 pm

The Fiesta regularly draws crowds of up to half a million people from across the region by combining the spectacle of mass hot air balloon ascents, an opening concert featuring current chart stars, a daily programme of top class entertainment including music to suit all tastes, children’s activities, carefully selected food and drink outlets, awe inspiring Night Glows together with a whole array of exhibitors and shopping opportunities.

Perhaps the most amazing part is that the Fiesta continues to provide all this free of charge - so it’s no surprise that the Fiesta is one of the most popular family days out in the whole country.

As ever, the often weird but always wonderful, special shape balloons are a real crowd pleaser – look out for Fiesta favourites including the Churchill dog, Monster.com and the Scottish Piper, who never fails to capture the public’s affection as he glides through the clouds to the rousing accompaniment of his own bagpipe band.

Responding to public demand, a selection of special shape veterans will be making guest appearances at the Fiesta, courtesy of the Balloon Preservation Group. The all star line up will include the Black Knight and Mr Cool (Babybel), both have been retired from flying but will be inflated and tethered in the main arena for one last photo opportunity.

Away from the bustle of the main arena, the ‘Heaven’ area will give Fiesta visitors a chance to take life at a slightly more relaxed pace.  ‘Heaven’ became part of the event in 2004, as an area, which provides quirky, amusing and innovative entertainment – almost a festival within a fiesta. This year the line up in “Heaven “ will include interactive entertainment, drumming workshops, science exhibits from At-Bristol, clay making classes and human and animal visitors from Bristol Zoo.

Between morning and evening balloon lifts, the Fiesta arena will welcome brand new events including a Donkey Derby (with sponsored teams raising funds for charity), an It’s a Knockout Competition – where competitors will happily put aside their dignity for the public pleasure and the incredible sight of the Vander Brothers performing their double wheel spectacular – an awesome test of nerve for all concerned.

This is the largest entertainment programme that the event team has ever produced and is in addition to an already packed timetable of Fiesta activity. This includes mass launches of 120 hot air balloons each morning and evening from Friday to Sunday (6am and 6pm, weather permitting), the spectacular Night Glows which combine illuminated balloons, fireworks and music at 9.30pm on Thursday and Saturday evenings – Saturday will be particularly intriguing – watch for details. All of this plus arena displays and entertainment throughout the day.

The opening day of the Fiesta (Thursday 11 August) sees the Fiesta’s huge live music stage play host to a concert of chart-topping pop stars (names to be confirmed soon) from 2- 9pm.  GWR Fm will broadcast live from the stage on Friday and community music and performances will take place on Saturday.  Following the success of the live classical concert in previous years, the New Bristol Sinfonia will perform a range of popular classics on Sunday afternoon from 4- 5pm

With a huge range of entertainment from arena events to aerial displays, funfairs to flights, exhibitors to entertainers, caterers to clowns and much more - the Discovery Channel International Balloon Fiesta continues to be one of the very best days out of the summer.
